Comfort Zones and Gratefulness

"Today, I’m stepping way out of my comfort zone and sharing something I never thought I would—a recording of me singing Hallelujah.
This recording was made recently, after enduring seven spinal surgeries. For years, I hadn’t even attempted to sing; between losing core strength and the energy-draining effects of AS, it felt impossible. I’m not a professional and have no formal training. This recording is completely unedited, and while singing along with the violin accompaniment definitely adds to the effect, this is raw and authentically me.
Sharing this is a big step in my journey to become the person I’ve always been meant to be—the one I held myself back from becoming. Since regaining my core strength, I’ve discovered that singing at the top of my lungs not only brings me joy but also helps expand my lungs and ease the tight, vice-like pain I sometimes feel in my ribs and chest. Who knows, maybe it could help someone else, too!
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in fighting this disease is to find activities I genuinely enjoy—ones that make me feel alive. I’m posting this first as proof that I walk my talk about stepping out of your comfort zone. This Thanksgiving, I am incredibly grateful to be alive, thriving, and courageous enough to share this with you all.
Surviving a near-death experience taught me that most of what we stress over isn’t worth it. Being shy, scared, or worried about what others think shouldn’t hold you back. This is our one, extraordinary life, and it’s meant to be lived to the fullest—without regrets. Most people we encounter only once, so why not embrace life completely, even if it means risking looking silly?
I hope this inspires you to take a leap and live your life boldly. Step out of your comfort zone and embrace everything this amazing life has to offer—you might just surprise yourself!
